A Five-Year Strategy for PEI's Tourism Industry
A new tourism strategy for Prince Edward Island was launched on April 19, 2024 at the Tourism Industry Association of PEI (TIAPEI) Industry Partner Day.
This five-year strategy outlines the necessary initiatives to foster and support the development of a vibrant year-round destination for visitors choosing PEI for vacation, meetings/conventions and conferences, sports, family and friends, or events which will increase total annual tourism revenue in the primary season and increase visitation during the winter and shoulder seasons.
Approach
An implementation committee co-led by Tourism PEI and the Tourism Industry Association of PEI (TIAPEI) with industry partners will take ownership of the strategy, collaborate with different organizations to help achieve objectives as well as track, evaluate and report progress.
The strategy outlines two key objectives with 28 initiatives to undertake over the next months and years:
Pillar 1: Optimize tourism enabling environment
Optimize PEI’s tourism enabling environment to support strategic priorities to help PEI’s tourism industry achieve its full potential.
Pillar 2: Marketing & Sales
Prioritize visitors with the greatest propensity to visit and the highest potential yield by leveraging the best channels in leisure, meetings/conventions, events and sports tourism on a season-by-season basis.
Pillar 3: Improve tourism products, experiences & infrastructure
Optimize PEI products, experiences & infrastructure to drive four-season tourism.
Pillar 4: Improve tourism capacity
Improve tourism capacity to deliver higher yield visitors, optimize pricing and help operators adapt to changing conditions impacting tourism.
