Kent MacDonald was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Tourism PEI in 2019. In this role, Kent also serves as secretary to the Tourism PEI Board of Directors and sits as a member of the Atlantic Canada Agreement on Tourism’s Management Committee and Destination Canada’s NorthStar CEO Committee. In May 2020, Kent was appointed to the Premier’s Council for Recovery and Growth.
Before joining Tourism PEI, Kent spent 12 years with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). As ACOA’s Director of Tourism Policy and Programs, Kent led the development and implementation of a tourism growth strategy for ACOA and was the lead ACOA representative in the development of Canada’s National Tourism Growth Strategy (2019). During that time, Kent was also the lead Regional Development Agency representative in the design and development of a new $58.5 million Canadian Experience Fund.
With over 20 years of experience within the tourism industry, Kent is a champion for the growth and development of PEI’s tourism industry. He is passionate about assisting tourism operators and the development and growth of a tourism industry that contributes to the prosperity of Islanders from tip to tip.
Kent and his wife Bonnie reside in the Town of Stratford with their daughters Tate and Sage. Kent is actively involved in the community and has dedicated many volunteer hours to the Pownal Minor Hockey community and Island golf community.
