View the latest and historical monthly data related to occupancy in accommodations and origin of visitors in paid accommodations.
Definitions and Data Sources:
Overnight stays (ONS) is the number of combined fixed-roof and campground nights sold in each month. This number is calculated based on reports submitted by all licensed tourism establishments on PEI and includes motorcoach figures.
Room-nights sold (RNS) is the number of room-nights sold in each month. This number is calculated based on reports submitted by all licensed fixed-roof accommodations (i.e. hotels, cottages, B&B’s, etc.) on PEI and includes motorcoach figures.
Site-nights sold (SNS) is the number of site-nights sold in each month. This is calculated based on reports submitted by all licensed campgrounds on PEI and includes motorcoach figures.
Occupancy rate - the percentage of room-nights that are occupied (sold) out of all room-nights available in the province. This rate is based on reports submitted by all licensed tourism establishments on PEI and includes motorcoach figures.
Accommodation Types - is the groupings used to categorize Prince Edward Island’s short-term rental properties. Accommodation types are grouped under the following:
- Hotels - includes hotels, motels and resorts.
- Cottages - includes cottages, cabins, vacation homes, apartments, and condos. A vacation home is a short-term rental property where the whole house is offered.
- Bed and Breakfasts - includes bed and breakfasts and tourist homes. Tourist homes are short-term rentals where only a portion of a residence is offered and it is owner occupied.
- Inns -is a short-term rental property where the tourism operator provides personal service to guests. Breakfast and dinner are served in the establishment.
- Trailers - includes trailers and hostels.
