If your idea of an epic winter day is gliding over an outdoor rink, you’re not alone. There’s something inherently romantic about ice skating. Perhaps it is the combination of wintery atmosphere, sparkling lights, and potentially grabbing onto someone as you try not to fall, that is hard to beat.
Whether you want to share a magical experience with a partner or just want the family to exercise, here's a guide to public outdoor ice skating locations.
These destinations promise an experience that will warm your heart even in the chilliest of temperatures. So, pack your skates, bundle up and get ready to be enriched by winter.
Outdoor rinks need cold average daily temperatures, ideally below –10°C, to be open. Please check conditions before heading out.
Hot chocolate? Yes, please!
One of the best parts of skating is the hot drink that inevitably follows. Check out the TOP FIVE winter places for hot chocolate and sweet treats across the Island:
- Samuel's Coffee House - Summerside
- Jane & Sue Chocolate - Stanley Bridge
- Star & Stable Christmas Store - North Milton
- COWS Creamery - North River Causeway
- Lucky Bean - Montague
Safety tips
- Wear a helmet. In some locations, participants of all ages are required to wear a CSA-approved helmet while on ice.
- Skating is always at your own risk.
