Yield: 15
Baking time: Approximately 12-14 minutes
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup Dairy Isle cold butter, cut into pieces
- 1 1/2 cups coarsely shredded ADL Aged Cheddar cheese
- 1 cup ADL buttermilk
Directions
- For best results, chill your butter in the freezer for 10 to 20 minutes in advance. It's ideal that the butter is very cold for light, flaky, buttery biscuits.
- Preheat oven to 400F.
- In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients.
- With a pastry blender or two knives (using in a scissor-fashion), cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheddar cheese and
buttermilk. - Turn dough onto a floured work surface (dough will be crumbly) and fold gently using your hands until dough is smooth and holds together (see video for demonstration).
- Cut into desired shape and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush tops with a beaten egg (optional).
- Bake in oven until biscuits are cooked through and golden brown about 12-14 minutes.
