Hi! My partner is attending a conference at the Rodd Brudenell River Resort at the end of June and my toddler and I will be travelling with him. What are some things we should consider doing or visiting?

Hello Sage,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

Rodd Brudenell River Resort is in the heart of the Points East Coastal Drive and is near the picturesque small towns of Montague, Georgetown and Cardigan. Georgetown is a hidden gem with artisan shops, cafes, and a beautiful public garden -- as well as the super friendly hospitality of its residents. A favourite spot for a toddler would be the Brudenell Miniatures Barnyard Zoo.  In Montague, there is a splash pad called The Cool Zone as well as the Creative Rebel Studio.

The Points East Coastal Drive has more than 50 beaches. The sandbar leading to Panmure Island has the unique beach with red sand on one side and the lighter white sand on the other side. There is even a lighthouse you can visit while you are there.

A must see beach is the Sanding Sands Beach at Basin Head. When in the area, a miniature train ride awaits you at the Elmira Railway Museum. At East Point, you will see the tides of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Northumberland Strait meet.  In Souris, you will find another splash pad at The Souris Beach Gateway Park. Also, you can take a break and enjoy delicious potato fudge at OH Fudge.

Your visit to the Points East Coastal Drive would not be complete without a visit to King's Castle Provincial Park near Murray River and Hannah's Bottle Village at Point Prim, the home of the Island's oldest lighthouse.

An excellent resource for additional trip ideas is the Tourism PEI website and the Points East Coastal Drive website.

We are looking forward to your visit to Prince Edward Island.

Regards,

Kevin Barbour
