Where is the best beach for skim boarding?

Hello Bonita,

Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander.

I would think that any of our amazing beaches would be great for skimboarding. Basin Head Beach is a very popular beach in the Points East Coastal Drive Region.

Kite surfers seem to enjoy Souris Beach on a windy day.

If you prefer rougher water, I would suggest sticking to the beaches of the North Shore. If you want calmer waters with low tides and vast flats I would head to the South Shore beaches. Keep an eye on beach reports, some days are just too rough to be using any kind of flotation device.

Have fun!

Asked: I will be visiting Souris in early July 2024. I would love to take in a traditional lobster boil ( if that’s the correct wording , with the potatoes and corn and sea food ). Is there a local area known for offering this?
