Where are the singing sands?

Good morning J.

Thank you for your inquiry to Ask an Islander. You will find the Singing Sands at Basin Head Provincial Park, a very popular beach for locals and visitors alike - definitely my favourite! It has been named "one of the best beaches in Canada" and is located 'up east' just a short drive beyond Souris.

This nickname speaks to the high silica and quartz content in the sand. In places, the sand actually squeaks or "sings" when you walk on it. Here's a video to demonstrate...

If you haven't done so already, download our 2023 visitor’s guide or pick up a hard copy when you arrive at any Visitor Information Centre. You can always stay in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!

We hope to see you soon on Prince Edward Island.
