What are some great dining options (casual upscale) on the east side of the island? I am trying to plan a trip for my wife's 50th. We are already staying at and have reservations at the Inn at Bay Fortune.Thank you!

Good afternoon Troy:

There are so many wonderful eateries in eastern PEI, I hope you are visiting for a week or two! A number of these recommendations I haven't personally visited but are highly recommended by friends.

First off, I would recommend to 21 Breakwater in Souris. Many friends rave about the flavourful meals and welcoming dining experience. It is on my list to visit this summer!

A friend recently dined at The Boat House in North Port and said it was very good and her photos showed an airy, light filled space.

Let's move on to Cardigan where I have never been disappointed with a meal at Clam Diggers (pictured). If you can get a table by the window or outside, you can watch small watercraft breeze by on the bay. Also in Cardigan, is the Celebration Station located in an historic train station.

Down the road in Georgetown, you will find The Wheelhouse and the Georgetown Inn, both are known for good food. Best to reserve for these as they are busy.

Montague has a number of lovely restaurants and take outs with a variety of flavours. For dining, check Windows on the Water or a more casual meal can be enjoyed at the Station Pub on the waterfront (pictured). Friends rave about Montague Thai Food & Sushi and a small bistro called What's Good! I recently enjoyed one of the messiest but 'oh so good' burgers at Dinger's Dive - look for the outside green door at the Down East Mall. It is a takeout counter, but you can sit in the Tailgate Bar.

Further down the road in the southeast corner, stop in at Harbourview Restaurant in Murray Harbour. Delight in their prize-winning seafood chowder and great down home cooking (many gluten free items available).

At Wood Islands, there are two options: Treena's Takeout is operated by a local chef who, after working in Charlottetown eateries for a few decades, wanted to operate her own little spot near home. Everything will be good! A charming little restaurant that I discovered for the first time last week is the Whistle Stop also at Wood Islands. I bought gluten free cakes that were incredible and reasonably priced. The clerk explained that 80% of their menu can be made gluten free including their fish & chips.

If you venture down to the Point Prim area, the Point Prim Chowder House is well known and the seaside view is unmatched. Also try Country Taste Kitchen for delectable sandwiches and European style tortes and other sweets.

Enjoy your stay on the Island and I am sure you will return home well fed and happy!

Asked: I will be visiting Souris in early July 2024. I would love to take in a traditional lobster boil ( if that’s the correct wording , with the potatoes and corn and sea food ). Is there a local area known for offering this?
