We are looking at renting a cottage summer of 2023. What is the best time of summer (July and August) to go?

Good morning from Prince Edward Island,

Thank you for your inquiry to Ask an Islander about cottage rentals for next summer. As you can appreciate, July and August are peak times for visitors to the Island and cottages are in high demand. The best time to come in summer depends on the type of activity of interest to you. If you enjoy swimming at the beach, the waters become warmer by mid-July. The festivals and events scene heat up by July 1st and runs into the fall season.

Ultimately, the best time to come may depend on availability in July and August. Now is the time to do your research, check cancellation policies and book accommodation for a 2023 summer vacation.

If this will be your first visit to Prince Edward Island, it is important to decide your region of interest, keeping in mind that you can easily plan day trips from any location in the province. All accommodations listed on tourismpei.com must be inspected to ensure compliance with provincial and industry standards. If you choose to book a property that is not listed with Tourism PEI, we recommend that you confirm that it is licensed and inspected. You will need to visit property websites directly for availability (where posted) or contact by email or phone. Alternatively, you may wish to check popular booking sites such as Airbnb.ca, VRBO, Booking.com, etc.

I invite you to download our 2022 visitor’s guide for a quick reference guide to places to stay. Keep in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!

We hope to see you in 2023.
