My wife and I will bring our own inflatable kayaks. What are the best places to do kayaking by ourselves, regardless if it is in the ocean or a river or both? Regards.

Hello kayak adventurers!

PEI offers outstanding opportunities for kayaking in calm bays, along a scenic river or taking in the stunning rugged coastline. The trick would be to find the right launch point. In the central area, try North Rustico. There is lots of parking and easy access to the water. You can either paddle in the bay or go beyond the sand bar out into the ocean.

Victoria by the Sea is another easy access spot with a long sandy beach.
For river adventure, travel east to Fortune Bridge and paddle the Fortune River, the Morell River or the Montague River.

If you are in the city of Charlottetown, the Yacht Club has installed a kayak launch. This excursion would provide a unique view of the city and Victoria Park.

In the south east corner of PEI, Machon Point Road is another good spot to launch. From there you can paddle to one of the nearby Murray Islands which are inhabited by birds and sunning seals.

In researching your answer, I did find a website with some recommended launch sites and well as a PEI kayak Facebook group and have included link here.

Kayaking has been on my 'bucket list' for a while and I think this summer is the time to check that off! Thanks for the inspiration!
