Is October a good time to visit PEI? What activities are there at that time and what is the weather generally like?

Good afternoon from PEI,

Thank you for contacting Ask an Islander. I think anytime is a good time to visit the Island, but I may be a little biased. I also know that not everyone likes going to the beach in February (although I highly recommend it).

The PEI Fall Flavours Culinary Festival is the main attraction in October while theatre performances and live music continue on the main stage at the Confederation Centre of the Arts, the Watermark Theatre in North Rustico and Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside.

October is the best time to visit the Island for the fall colours. PEI has a lot of country roads that will take you through old farmland now overgrown with trees. The smell of woodsmoke and the hint of winter in the air make this time of year homey and beautiful. Plus, it will be too cool for pesky mosquitoes. It really is the best walking weather. You can do that from one end of the Island to the other either following Island Walk or the Confederation Trail (which is also great for cycling).

If you like live music there are plenty of options. Some of our ceilidhs will still be happening plus there are a number of venues in Charlottetown that feature music all year round, in particular the Old Triangle, Trailside, and the Olde Dublin Pub.

Finally, if you are a fan of seafood, visiting an island surrounded by sea is a great idea anytime of year. The Culinary Institute, Sea Rocket, Merchantman, and Water Prince Corner Shop are all spot-on for seafood and more. Wherever you decide to eat, you have to try a Malpeque Oyster. Raw or fried, they are world-famous for good reason.

If you haven't done so already, download our 2023 visitor’s guide or pick up a hard copy when you arrive at the airport or any Visitor Information Centre. You can always stay in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!

Thank you for choosing Prince Edward Island. I hope your visit is just amazing.
