Sam MacPhail
Were you born in PEI or are you an Islander by choice?
Born and raised in Prince Edward Island.
Where do you live?
Cornwall, with origins in Argyle Shore and Westmoreland.
Describe what an average day looks like for you?
An average day for me starts with reading news from several outlets. It then usually consists of touching base with co-workers and making sure they have everything they need to be successful.
In the summer, my day can include a combination of desk work and visiting some of our member courses or other tourism industry partners. In the winter, its preparing marketing campaigns to attract golf vacationers from all over the world.
After work, you’ll usually find me at the golf course trying to sharpen my game (work in progress…).
What is your favourite thing about life in PEI?
I love how close everything is in PEI. A former Premier of PEI used to say that PEI is “a place you can wrap your arms around.” In twenty minutes, you can go from Downtown Charlottetown to a beach. I also love how many incredible restaurants we have from tip to tip. As a moonlighting bartender, I like to visit and taste test at many places across our Island.
What is something people wouldn't know if they're not from the island?
That some of the best adventures and attractions can be found ‘off the beaten path’ in nooks and crannies across the Island. This includes beaches, golf courses, and restaurants.
What are you passionate about?
My passion/guilty pleasure is political history. I am obsessed with biographies of past politicians. I’ve even authored and published a book on one of PEI’s longest serving politicians with the sales being donated to a local school breakfast program.
If you had to choose one spot on the island to take someone who has never been here, where would it be?
Victoria-By-The-Sea. It is the most unique community on PEI, with a handful of amazing restaurants and shops.
