Ruth Delong
Ruth started hiking in 1979 while backpacking across Canada and New Zealand. She spent 18 years as a volunteer on the Trails - which she knows like the back of her hand - before she was first recommended for a job at PEI Parks and then invited to join the Board of Island Trails. Ruth has lived in PEI for the majority of her life with stops in Manitoba and England.
Where do you live in PEI?
I live in Winsloe, a suburb of Charlottetown, 200 meters from the Confederation Trail and 15 minutes from Brackley Beach.
What is an average day for you?
I’m very active and most days either cycle or hike and in the winter cross-country ski. Throughout the summer there is a lot of office work but I do have many hours on the Confederation Trail working on way-finding signs, distance signs, communicating with tourist operators, talking with Confederation Trail users to learn what’s working and what can be improved, and organizing our trail volunteers.
